96 astro security system question

In my 96 astro it has a keyless entry stystem in which you have to push the unlock button (on keychain) anytime you want to start it- It clicks over and over again until you push it. Lately every once and a while it will just start clicking while i am driving it and I have to push the button to get it to stop. I took a look at the electronic parts of this under the dash and it looks like a real pain in the a$$... Is there any way to disable this system and still have the keyless entry? Since I has been acting up a bit lately I am a little concerned that it will fail me sonetime soon and leave me unable to start my van-- and I think it is dumb to always have to push a stupid button to start it!

Re: 96 astro security system question

Sounds to me like an aftermarket system, if so, go the the manufacturers website and look for an installation manual for the model that you have. It should have a pdf that you can download with a schematic of the system and you can disable all but the power locks. If you need help understanding the schematic, post the website in this thread.

Re: 96 astro security system question

You were right it was an aftermarket system... it used the keyless entry system as the trigger for the starter cut-off. It was soooo easy to remove- kinda pointless because any one who knows how to steal a car could figure out how to get past this! (it even had a schmatic diagram on the side of it!!!) Well anyways, thank you for the reply...
