Torsion Bar adjustment bolt....

I have a 01 chevy silverado 2500HD. I want to adjust the torsion bar blots so I can raise it about an inch. While trying to do this it turnrned about 3 short turns and stopped. So I backed it off and noticed something in the threads. It almost looked like solder, so I'm wanting to know if anyone one else had ever noticed this or had issues trying to raise there torsion bars up.

I dont want to break the bolts off trying to push through it unless someone can tell me GM put it there just to mark the bolts position.

Any suggestions would be great!! Thanks

Many times they will put a paint mark on the bolts to show the set up has been performed and to spot the original posistion.
When adjusting these bolts, make sure you make the same amount of turns or increments for both sides. Check the original ride height before making any changes. Only turn the bolts a little at a time and test drive the vehicle to unload the torsion spring. Keep adjusting and road testing until the desired ride height is acheived.
Too much over adjustment will throw the alignment off, so be prepared for outer tire wear.

If its paint its thick and it looks silver. Both sides have it in the threads. I was only using a 3/8 drive ratchet though to turn it. When it got to whatever it is in the threads it stopped. I was just afraid of stripping the threads or breaking the bolt.

From all the other posts I've read on adjusting the torsion bars I hadnt seen where anyone else had come across this. Thanks

You might be able to use a propane torch to heat the suspect material up and use a wire brush to clean the threads.

Yea thats a good idea thanks. I have two weeks yet before I'm getting the tires put on (285/75/R16) then getting it aligned right after that. He said it wouldnt cost anymore to adjust the torsion bars.

I just wanted to see if I could get it adjusted before I got there. Play around with it a little seeing where I wanted it for sure.
