4.3 to rebuild or not to rebuild?

Hello, I have 2 '96 Blazer's one with a great body and a motor that knocks real bad, and one with a body that's rotted out but the motor runs perfect. I am planing to take the motor out of the one that is rotted out and put it in the one with the good body. It has 175,000 miles on it but it runs beautiful! The question is, should I give it a re-ring while it's out? or leave it alone and just put it in (if it ain't broke don't fix it) Any advice or opinion's would be great! Thanks!!

Re: 4.3 to rebuild or not to rebuild?

I would either do nothing but what it NEEDS or completely rebuild it. Since the r&r is a big part of the labor and it has 175k on it, then a rebuild would be my choice and it would be a nice cheap (relative) straight forward rebuild. If it needs rings, it needs other stuff and is one of the hardest things to get to when assembling.

Check on a price of a reman engine also and avoid any auto parts store remans since they use the cheapest parts.A reman is cheaper than rebuilding an engine these days sometimes.Rebuilding an engine involves sending the crank, heads and block in for machining to a machine shop and the price of the rebuild kit.It can get more expensive if the crank is no good or one of the heads is found to be cracked.Same with the block after being magnafluxed being checked for cracks
