3 trans rebuilds in the last 3 mths is it every going to work again

I have had my 02 trans rebuilt in the last 3 mnths. Is it possible to every get it back on the road again. I have spent countless hours and money trying to get this vehicle to move again but it seems to be a nightmare. It only has 78,000 miles on it, and at the time when I bought it, a few months ago and I have only got to drive it 2 days since i have owned it. All the rest of the time working on it myself, transporting it to shop and wasting countless amounts of money on it. what would you do? I am stumped. I know now i will never own an explorer every again what a piece of junk!!

It sounds like you can't afford to keep it and can't afford to get rid of it. Private party value is $4000 for an 02 Explorer in good condition. If you paid close to this range you will just about have to get it running to sell it and cut your losses. It appears to me that you have just about had it with this vehicle. The bad part about your situation is that unless it is running it isn't worth anything. Maybe $800 salvage. What would I do? I'd call the salvage and have them come out and get it. It's a money pit and the sooner you get rid of it the better off you'll be. You're putting in good money after bad. It's not worth the aggravation. Life is too short. But by the other token, and I don't know how much money you have in it, but if you can get it running it's worth $4000. The deciding factor for me would be whether or not I was going to have more money in my back pocket by getting rid of it or by keeping it.

kelly blue book states $6100 trade in for this explorerin good condition. it is the limited edition fully loaded and that is what i paid for it but since i got it i have put $1500 into it. and a new trans is around $ 2000 which private party is $8700 so it would be a slight loss but still enough crap to piss a person off

Do not rely on the Kelly Blue Book price, way too high and very 100%unaccurate.The NIADA book is more accurate and go with this one instead for value of the vehicle

I had the same problem with my 1996 Explorer. After the second rebuild it stayed in the shop for a month. Finally the shop gave me a partial refund because they were at their wits end on how to fix it smooth. They fixed it enough to drive it without any codes popping up, but it still was not like when i first bought it. A month later i sold it. Headache gone!
