High RPM on starts and at random times while drivingsilvertree 06-18-2009, 11:14 AM 2001 Alero 3.4L, just noticed that its been starting at high RPM and if keeped in park and you don't touch the brake pedal it just keeps increasing. But once you hit the brake it goes back to normal. Also at random times while driving it starts increasing the RPM for no apparent reason. Any ideas? BNaylor 06-18-2009, 08:40 PM Probably high IAC counts. Try removing the idle air controller (IAC) located on the throttle body and clean it. Carbon builds up on it. Also, be sure to clean the seat where the IAC mounts on the throttle body. silvertree 06-18-2009, 09:32 PM Where would that be located? I changed the oil and air filter and that help some. BNaylor 06-19-2009, 01:30 AM On the throttle body which is the part the accelerator cable connects to and allows air into the engine. Between the upper intake manifold and air intake. See pics. And please use caution or better judgment using the "Report Post" function to get assistance. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/lizzywiz/iac_3400.jpg Location of IAC on Throttle Body http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/lizzywiz/iac_2.jpg Idle Air Controller (IAC) silvertree 06-22-2009, 11:10 PM Ok thx for the help its running really well now :) And sorry about the report thing I wasn't paying attention and thought it said reply :( Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
