Anyone know if the guide pin seals for the rear calipers on a 2001 Suburban 1500 are one-piece or two-piece per guide pin? The ones I got have a metal sleeve that fits inside the pad carrier attached to a rubber seal that slips over the metal flange on the the caliper. This seems right, but I cannot remove the flanged piece that is attached to the pad carrier. From the looks of it, I'm not sure it is supposed to come out. Is there just a rubber seal that fits over the flange on each piece?

on my 2000 1500 sil. the rear cal pins have one boot / pin....where did you buy the new pins ???///boots ?>>>>

the boot may have some sealer holding/sealing the flanged ends...

I found out from the dealer today that Chevy had 2 suppliers for these calipers: Repco and PBR. The Repco calipers had bleed screws with 10/1.5 thread and a caliper pin boot that have a metal sleeve attached that goes into the rotor. The PBR, which I have, has a 10x1.0 bleed screw and a caliper pin boot that fits onto a flange on the caliper. There is no metal piece. This has caused my parts store (and me) no end of grief. I guess the Repco calipers are more common.

thanks for that info ...I guess you and I have the designed to fail type as from the day I purchased this vehicle 4/2000 those rear caliper pins rust up....

my solution was to grind the pin dia. down so that the pins fit loose///this allows more grease to stay in the bore,,,then with braking the rocking of the cal/pins keeps the cal from seizing...this has worked for several years now///since these boots are 9years old I was hoping to find replacements rather that buying a new caliper...

That's about the only problem with the rears I haven't had. Rusted pins-no. Rusted rotors-yes. Impossible to turn bleeder screws-yes. Rusted backing plates-yes. Malfunctioning parking brakes-yes. I had to buy parts from the dealer. 2 tiny guide pin boots (1 caliper) and two bleeder screws $32!!

my backing plates rusted from the inside out///they painted over rusted dirty metal///cut the new plates in half 3years ago still look good///brush coated with mineral spirits based undercoating..

rotor in rear no rust///front rotors are rusted need changing..
bleed screws no problem.

parking brake failed at 15K mi..shoes flop around wear out on inner rotor drum defective design//re-designed the shoe hold down so that the shoes stay in the proper non contact position..

cal pins rusted out seized calipers 22K mi ///removed pins and grind to a better fit...now I need the cal pin boots////

WHERE DID YOU GET JUST THE CAL PIN BOOTS ?
