2.2 Head

New clutch, slave and master cylinder installed, now on to leaking head gasket.

What are my odds that I need only change the gasket and the Head is ok?

Some say they are almost always cracked, is this true? Never overheated, not leaking externally or mixing with the oil, just leaking into the piston(s) as far as I can tell.

I will get it checked of course, but before I get started I would like to know my odds, $80 for a gasket set, or $500+ for gasket set and new head.

When the head is removed take it to a good machine shop and have valves and head checked for cracks and flatness.

Also always use new head bolts when installing head.
Good luck
