Profesional opinion needed pleaase!!

Hi I have a 95 1L geo metro manual transmition , the problem is that the swing arm on top of the transmision that the clutch cable hooks into has gotten really stiff and does not swing back into position after I put the clutch to the floor. so basically i can't drive the car beacause it stays in gear, I can grab onto the little swing arm and force it toward the front of the car, and that puts it in gear but it taks a lot of force it do it. this problem started in the winter when it was really cold out and I am now tring to fix it, any ideas as to what is wrong with it? thanks -Robby

Re: Profesional opinion needed pleaase!!

Is this without it connected to the cable?

as your cable may be internally corroded, causing it to seize up.

Other than that I would say drop out the transmission, and check the clutch parts, make sure they are in good condition, and move freely. If they dont then pull the pieces apart, clean them, replace them as necessary.

The fact that you transmission does go into gear is a good sign. I guessing some corrosion has built up in the clutch moving parts causing resistance.

The fact that you can move it by hand is also promising as well.

If the cable is disconnected, check it for free movement.

Remember, dont lubricate the clutch plate, or other internal parts!!!!

Let me know, Ill be checking back on this topic.

I would also remove the cable and see where the issue is.

I would remove the clutch cable and soak it in oil over night and spray down the clutch arm with WD-40 and loosen up the moving parts. Once you get them working freely then lube them up with real oil.
