stalling
I recently purchased a "92 Olds Bravada and of course it has some problems. That being said I have fixed most of what is wrong with it. The one thing that is plaguing me now is that the truck cranks and runs very well. But, after driving around for a little while it shuts down. It will crank right back up and run for another short distance before doing it again. So far it has not failed to crank and it runs great while it's running but like I said it shuts off after a few miles. Any help here would be great, Thanks, Joe

Any check engine lights?
When it stalls check for lack of proper fuel pressure and good hot blue spark to spark plugs.

no check engine but "service engine soon" light stays on, along with ABS and the foot brake light. I had a similar problem with my bike ('86 goldwing) it would run fine till (what they call "pulse generators") what I call crankshaft position sensors would heat up then the thing would shut down. Once they cooled some it would crank back up, run fine till they heated up again then it shut down again. Changed 'em out and haven't had a problem for over 2 years now. Is there a similar set up on the bravada or could it be the coil breaking down? Not real familiar with this vehicle so any help is appreciated.

If service soon light on read codes and post back code no.

codes come back negative. just keeps flashing 12, I think that's it. Which if I'm reading the book right is a clear system.

If the service engine light soon is on it will have a hard code stored.
Get a good scanner on it and read codes.
Post back code no.
And check for lose of spark or fuel when it stalls.

Will have to take truck to shop to get a diagnostic. My OBD II will not work on the data port on the truck and I don't think they make an adapter, so I'll have to get the shop to hook it up and read the codes for me. I won't be able to get it there till Tuesday due to work schedule so I'll let you know what I find out then. Thanks for the help, Joe

after some tinkering and fixing of small problems I have managed to eliminate the service engine soon light. I replaced the O2 sensor and that solved that problem. I'm still having the stalling problem though. I have noticed that the temp guage seems to be malfunctioning also. I don't know if they are tied together or not but I thought I'd mention it just in case. I have tested the fuel pump and there is no problem there. It is running the whole time when the truck stumbles and the pressure never falters. If the truck stops running all together the pump shuts off shortly after until I try cranking it again. I replaced the ignition module also with no sucess. Any Ideas or info would be greatly appreciated as I would really like to keep the truck cause it is a nice vehicle and does so well when it does run. Thanks, Joe

Did you ever get any codes?
What was the fuel pressure readings?

No codes, when I replaced the O2 sensor the service engine light went out. I assumed from that there were no problems there. Fuel pressure runs about 56 lbs. maybe a little more but not much, readings on guage went from 50 to 60 lbs. pressure was a little over half way of the readings. Manual tells me it should be between 54 and 62 lbs. It's to good of a vehicle to let die but it's driving me nuts trying to figure it out.  this what I feel like. By the way thanks for your help.

Yeah based on all the info you provided, it sounds like it could be the ignition switch. I'm not saying it is for sure though and to change it unless you have another one on the cheap, just where I'd check it out.

The key and tumbler is not the ing switch they are telling you about.
