OK. I now know that the driver side rear A/C line has a leak. I tried to add freon and heard a 'hissing' sound under the van and the A/C does not kick on. The freon level is empty.
So, how difficult is it to replace those lines?
Since all the Freon has leaked out, before I replace the lines, do I need to have the system evacuated?, or can I just dig in?

what issues do I need to be made aware of?
Is there a simplier "patch" that works?

in looking at the manual, this does not seem to be a real tough job. is there special tools needed,,, am imissing something? the spring clip connector looks like that may be a trick. But it looks like the lines an be replaced at the bottom by disconecting from the spring clips. then from the inside rear AC unit. Does that seem right?

You need special tools to remove the quick connects. Here is a site that makes a kit to repair these. Follow the directions exactly. You will need to evacuate and rechage after the repair to remove moisture. Not necessary to repalce the receiver/dryer/accumulator even though shop says you must.
