91 park ave. 3800 , please help

my brother has a 91 park ave 3800 without the supercharge. he said he was driving n hit a pothole n the street and his car begins to make a noise sound like a clanging sound, more like a bolt jumping around in the the hamonic balancer. so we checked the hamonic balancer and just as we expected the rubber was torn all the way around the ring on the hamonic balancer. so we replaced it with a new one but we are still getting the same noise. is this something else or do we have to set something. the new hamonic balancer looks good all the way around. i talk to autozone n they said something about a key. it only comes half way out of the crankshift or do i have to replace the ring. please someone help . what could this be making this noise sounding like a bolt jumping around.

When parked, have you tried removing the serpentine belt to see if the noise stops? If it does, then you know the noise is associated with whatever component is connected to the belt. Just don't run it too long without the belt, as the waterpump only works with the belt.

Re: 91 park ave. 3800 , please help

hi, i just wanted to give a update on my brothers car. we was going to change the cam spocket when my brother decided to wait and put everything back together. after we put it all together my brother said crank the car while he was under it to see if it still makes that noise. the flywheel where u hold with a screwdriver to keep the crankshift from turning have a dust cover around it to keep dirt n debrea from getting in. a screw came out and the cover was hitting the flywheel as it turned. thanks god we didnt go into the timing cover but the hamonic balancer was well needed and way over due. i told my brother we should have crawled before we started walking n saved alot of time. thanks everone
