Just got in a 94 Ranger 4.0L 4x4 the previous owner stated that it had bad head gaskets? It is hard starting and blows white smoke out the tailpipe when it fires up. I am thinking that it is either the head gasket that leaks coolant into the cylinders when you shut the truck off and then becomes an issue when you try to start it? Or possibly an intake gasket. Not sure what else I can check to determine which it is. I got it running and it idles nice and smooth and has plenty of power once it starts. And if you shut it down it will refire but not when it was run for a long time and then sits and leaks down.
