01 Rodeo fan belt replacement

Need to replace the fan belt on a 2001 Rodeo and wondering what tools are necessary. Also any help on getting it done would be much appreciated.

Re: 01 Rodeo fan belt replacement

You need a socket wrench and and a pipe. You releave the tension on the tensor and then slip off the belt.

See the FAQs link below.

Re: 01 Rodeo fan belt replacement

can i get a little more detail on belt replacement. Once I've released the tensor how do I retighten the tensor leaving the appropriate tension on the belt?

Re: 01 Rodeo fan belt replacement

It's spring loaded. It will spring back by itself and doesn't require adjustment.

Re: 01 Rodeo fan belt replacement

Last Question: Am I turning the tensor clockwise or counterclockwise.
Thanks to all who responded. Very much appreciated. If only the rest
of the world worked this way.

Re: 01 Rodeo fan belt replacement

Like the picture illustrates, clockwise. It's a strong spring so don't let it pop or get your fingers between the belt and a pulley.

When installing the new belt, it's better to place the belt around the outside of all the pulleys except #7, then pull the belt up and around #3 (tensioner) and then up and around #2, then get your wrench on the tensioner while holding the belt in place, move the tensioner as far as you can as you guide the belt up onto the last pulley which should be #7.
