I haven't disassembled anything yet, but has anyone had any problems with the brakes and changing them? I have an 05 T-Blazer that has disc all around and I've never had issues. Very easy change. However, the pick up is making noises. Any tips?

Oh, I'm sorry bud! It's a 2002 Silverado 1500 4x4 regular cab, long bed.

these are easy the brake pads may need filing so that they fit / move with ease...the noise is most likely their worn down...

since this is a 2002 you may also need rotors as they usually rust up badly after 7 years...

when you install the new pads put anti seize compound on the metal backing plate of the pads...this will keep them quiet..


does your parking brake work ???
now would be the time to replace park brake shoes...

The brakes work ok, I'm just anal and like to keep up with everything. Just got the truck, No, the parking brake does not work. It seems to be squeaking from the rear drivers side. The 2000 silvie I drive for work makes the same noise. I will most likely replace the rotors as well. It's easy enough and they're not expensive. So, you think the new ones will need to be filed? Or just some anti-seize? Thanks.

the pads need to slide with ease ..if not file/grind the edges so that they move ...this is a problem I have had with these vehicles...I can't explain why these only ...other vehicles its not a problem...this includes the GM oem pads...though not as bad as the others like bendix which does make a good brake pad...

Thanks for the tip. I looked the pads and rotors over and they looked decent, but man, the back are squeaking non stop, I'll make sure I give them a good filing and lube them up. I was also thinking about upgrading the calipers as well.

the calipers have not caused any problems...the caliper pins and rubber seals though are a problem...if rusted or the seal is damaged replace....

I have used a corrosion inhibitor on these calipers,,,it is a high temp anti sieze compound that dries like paint...wire brushing the white metal first..

the normal brush on anti sieze like grease is used on the brake pad backing...

When you go back together I would remove the thin metal backing plates on the pads and apply a line of Hi-Temp silicone to the back of the pads. This will adhere them to the caliper and stop the squeaking, Also if the pads are worn take some sandpaper anf slightly round over all of the edges.

What about the parking brake, anyone change this before? Looks to be a drum behind the rotor, all in one.

Well, I took apart the back brakes. Wow. There is just no way the truck should have past inspection. The inside pads were wore to the metal, the rotors were damaged on the inside. There is no parking brake hardware, it's been removed. The caliper mounting bracket pins, one on each side, were seized up, hence the inside pads down to metal. There is no back plate. And, last but not least, the bleeding screws on the calipers are broken and I can't bleed them to reinstall the calipers on all the crap I just bought. I'm super happy! Over 30 days, so not much I can do, but I just can't believe a guy would throw a sticker on it and sell it like that. Complete Neglect.

all these issues should be brought to the car dealer...selling a vehicle with defective brakes is illegal...he should be held fully responsible.

If he refuses to correct I would report this business to your state inspection department..

you have the GM defective rear brake design...I've reported this to NHTSA...with the bush administration in power they took no action...much like everything else which is why this country is screwed up..

I tried and all I heard was the 30 day lemon law, but I agree with you. How can a seller completely ignore the brakes of all things. Everyone I've talked to has said there's little I can do, but I'll try anything at this point. I don't mind the labor because at least I know they're done right and I like working on the truck. The parts are another story. Since I replaced the rear brakes, it has made a huge difference. No noise and they work great. Thanks for the info and the advice. I will make one more attempt to get paid back the parts, then I'll report him once I find out who to contact. Thanks!

This explains why the rear disk have gone back to drum, maybe I don't know.

could be....my 1983 had drum brakes , 17yrs later they always worked..this 2000 failed and continued to fail every 10-20k mi...so thats when I modified this design to work better...
