Electrical or just a pain?

I have a 2003 Cavalier (5 speed, no power anything), and I get a visible shock (with burn marks) and so do the passengers EVERYTIME I get out of the car. I know that there are other posts about this, but know one has an answer. I have tried the static strip and it did nothing. The car is in great shape, it barely has 36,000 miles on it. I am worried that one day i'm going to shock a gas pump. Can it be an electrical problem? It's not the weather, we get all 4 seasons here and nothing changes it. It happens in the rain, snow, daytime, night-time...
Please help, it REALLY HURTS.

Re: Electrical or just a pain?

There's nothing wrong with the electrical system. My &%$ '00 cav and '03 Impala do the same thing. It's just a static build-up from sliding across the seats. Just touch the door frames or any other metal part of the car before you touch gas pumps.

Re: Electrical or just a pain?

Agreed, definitely not the electrical system. The 12v battery isn't enough to shock you if you grab both terminals with wet hands. It does seem odd that you're getting that bad of a shock. I've got an '04 and have never had a shock. Stop wearing your footie pajamas in the car, I guess But seriously, you could try seat covers made of a different material than the seats... in denim jeans and cotton/polyester work pants I've been just fine, out of curiosity, what do you wear?

When you buy something... a bottle of pop for example, who gets the profit from it and what do they do with it? Maybe your money's going to groups that want to hurt you. I think everyone should do a search for things they purchase regularly "____ supports". Might just find a company you won't buy stuff from anymore.
