97 lumina engine compatability?????????

I am seeking a motor to replace the one that my 97 lumina ate the camshaft on. The issue I am having is that I have looked at a 97, and a 96 3.1 and both had different egr valves than mine. I have the one that is a cylinder shape with the connector at the that plugs in sideways, the motors I looked at all had the older style that had the 3 towers and the plug in the middle. I am confused!!! I thought any motor that was 96 and up was compatible???? Why are there different egr's? can I just swap the upper intake, and egr to make it work? Or do i have to find a motor with the exact same egr?

Please help!!!!!

Check other connections to plenium (upper) as long they are the same, you should be able to use the units from your old engine.

Re: 97 lumina engine compatability?????????

I had to do the same with mine when I put a '98 grand prix engine in my '96 lumina. I had to swap upper plenums with my origional engine. Auto zone had the gaskets for around 5 bucks. The good thing about doing this is that your idle settings should stay the same, since you will use all of your origional throttle body stuff as well. (No idle "relearn" needed)

I see that I'm not the only one who had a 3100 engine "eat" the camshaft!!
