let me start by telling you this is for my brother's truck. its a 92 explorer with a 4.0L. from what i understand he put some antifreeze in it and that is when the trouble started. in "P" amd "N" he can start it and rev up the engine, but when he puts it in "D" or "R" it stalls out. he says its like it not getting fuel, but i told him "if it wasnt getting fuel it would stall out in "P" and "N" and NOT rev up" can someone please help me with this one. thanks.

Sounds like maybe he has a significant vacuum leak that causes the engine to stall as soon as he puts a load on it. Did he maybe knock off the intake air hose or disconnect the MAF sensor plug?

ok i got some new info on the truck. when in "P" or "N" idles ok but when he steps on the gas it hesitates for a second and the revs up. now when it in "D" or "R" i think it idles ok but then he steps on the gas it sputters and dies, but if he feathers the gas then he can get it to move

I still think he needs to check for vacuum leaks and a misfire/plugs/wires.

I had 92 also with similar problem. Check for vacuum leak on left side of intake. There is a vacuum port with four ports for vacuum modulator, power brake booster etc. If any of those ports are left uncover it'll exhibit symptoms you described. I believe one port is not used and need to have port capped. Very easy for hoses to come off if vacuum modulator had a leak now or previously and ATF got sucked up into this port and the rubber hoses got oily and swelled slightly.
