Angry Stuck Transmission

I have a 66 mustang coupe with a 302 that I recently put a C6 transmission in. Originally it had a C4. I got everything hooked up the way it should be but when I went to start it, the transmission was jammed. I tried to pull the transmission thinking it was the torque converter and I cannot get the transmission out. Everything is unhooked, bolts are out and the transmission wont budge. I can only get it to come out about 1/16 of an inch away from the engine block. Ive tried everything short of using a wench to pull it out. Any suggestions?

Well, I have wenches pull things out on occasion.... nothing wrong with that

It's possible the 302 does not leave enough room for the converter, so it's shoved back into the oil pump.... or the converter was not centered properly on the flexplate,or is not compatible with that flexplate. As far as I know, the C6 was never installed at the factory behind any 302.

I would say get a couple of buddies and two jacks.... support the engine with one jack and try and lift and lower the tailstock of the trans very slightly and gently while prying at both sides of the bellhousing (where the alignment pins are) at the same time.

Re: Stuck Transmission

Yeah, I think that is what happened. Thats a bummer. Ill try what you suggested, if that doesnt work i may resort to the wench. lol. I've tried a come allong hooked to the transmission and the rear axle and I broke the straps. LOL, i've used those straps to pull full sized trucks out of mud holes. Its pretty stuck in there. Thankyou for your input. ill try that tonight.

Re: Stuck Transmission

Ford used the C6 transmission in several applications with the small blocks, more common in the trucks. Because the had removable bell housings, different configurations could be used. Crank end button came into play as well as the right flexplate configuration.

Check the web site below for more information.

Thanks for the clarification.
Yeah, I did consider the 351 Windsor may have had a C6 at some point... which has the same trans mounting casting at the rear of the block as the 302.
