Is my tranny toasted?

I just picked up a 95 camry 2.2L automatic with 145000 miles on it. I knew it had tranny problems so I drained the fluid and added Bar's Tranny fix and new fluid. Haven't driven it more than a mile or so since. Reverse works okay but in D,2,L I have to hit about 3000 rpm to get the thing moving. It slips real bad. Anything else I can try before I go get a replacement tranny? Thanks

If your fluid level is OK you will probably have to talk to a tranny shop...

Before I took it to a tranny shop where they will tell you that you need a rebuild, I'd drop the pan and clean the screen. It might be that simple.

Download the repair manual for your generation III Camry stickied at the top of this forum and run through the tests for checking your transmission. This can help pinpoint the problem and give you knowledge/ammunition for when you have to deal with the tranny shop.

Re: Is my tranny toasted?

Thanks for the input. I did run all the test and decided to swap my tranny out. Hell of a job working solo but I pulled 2 transaxles and replaced mine over the last few days. Glad to say I'm up and running. Still need to tune up, but I've got a total of $750 into my 95 w/146,000 on it. A little paint and I should be on the road. Aloha
