Engine swap advice.

Am going to put a '91 Ford 302 down into an '87 Toyota pickup. I have an adaptor kit that will hook the engine to the tranny, but am wondering about the ignition and fuel injection systems. What will I have to do to get the Ford ignition and fuel injection systems going or will it be easier just to switch over to a carb and a points system. Both units are 4x4's and both have fuel injection already.

Re: Engine swap advice.

You'll either have to pull an ECM from a donor car the same as the car the engine came from, or go with a carb and distributor.

Re: Engine swap advice.

Ideally you would get the ECMs and wiring harness from the Ford donor vehicle and integrate those into the Toyota. Going from EFI to carb would be a step backwards.

Re: Engine swap advice.

I'm doing the same swap in a 4 cyl. car. I went on e-bay and found a guy that makes a custom harness and ecu for the 302, there's only 6 wires to connect and 3 are grounds. Or you can get a painless wire kit from sumitt.
