re-tap threads

Doing work on the control arms during previous repairs, I encountered a few problems. I wrecked the thread for the rear right control arm bolt hole. On the front right control arm, the bolt starts to thread out, but half way through, it just keeps spinning. In the case of the latter bolt, I think the bolt thread is messed up, not the bolt hole. I want to fix both of these problems.

My idea is to re-tap the hole for the RR control arm and install a bigger sized bolt (any one know off-hand the size of the bolt)? For the FL, I am thinking that I may need to pull up the carpet and get at it from above. This seems complicated. If I simply cut the bolt off with a recip saw or grinder, will there be room to get a new bolt up the hole? I guess what I really want to know is, what is behind that bolt hole? In both cases, the bolts are the ones that attach the metal bracket around the rubber end of the control arm.

I hope that I have been somewhat clear in my explanations. I will go under the car to get photos if that will help.

Cheers,

Jai

Re: re-tap threads

Jai,

This is how I fixed mine. I couldn't access it from the top.
