98 Transmission problem

I have read through about 20 pages on the forum and have found some similar problems, but nothing exactly the same.

Occasionally, not all the time, I will get in my car, and drive. At some point it feels like the the transmission slips into neutral. The car will just coast and if I press the accelerator, the engine revs up, but the car doesn't drive. Some times if I just get out on the road, I will come to a stop light and once I come to a complete stop, I can feel it slip again. I press the accelerator and the engine revs, but the car only rolls backward. (The car is in Drive). I have noticed that this problem is rare in the fall and winter with cold dry air. Once the temperatures outside warm up and more humidity in the air, the car slips. I have had the transmission flushed and a new filter installed. One more thing, if I rev the engine enough, I can feel it slam into gear again. It's a jerky feeling. Once I get driving then it's not a problem anymore. Before I had the tranny serviced, the problem was much worse. I could seriously sit there in the road for 5 minutes before I could get the thing back into gear. The problem is not nearly as bad after the service. But the problem is becoming a bit more frequent now that the temps are rising in St. Louis. Also, shifting the car from drive, to neutral, or reverse does not help after it has slipped. I am worried that reving up the engine and letting it slam into gear may eventually damage the transmission. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: 98 Transmission problem

I had almost the exact same problem with my 98 Stratus and I added some tranny treatment for about $5-6 and it helped it shift normally and has been working fine since.
