My motor is tired whats my options

I have a 90 pickup with the 22r motor, I want more power but not a race truck. So what turbo motor can I drop in without haveing to do too much customizeing as in new drive-lines and motor mounts. Is there a JDM turbo 4 cylinder motor out there?

Re: My motor is tired whats my options

You could drop a 22RT in with no issues at all!(bolts right up) I don't remember the years it was available but it was a good solid turbo. Fresh rings and turn up the boost a little and she'll rock! 22 RT's are getting hard to find so If you do come across one, don't flinch! If you want it, buy it quick!

There's other toyota turbos that can go in, but they require some fabbing.

Re: My motor is tired whats my options

The 22RTE was available in Toyota trucks and 4Runners from 86-87.
If you find one be ready to sink some $$ into rebuilding the engine and turbo.
Unfortunately most owners tended to really abuse them, and 20+ yrs later they need it.

I've been lucky with my 87. Runs as good as the day it rolled off the assembly line. It looks like hell though
