Ok so im doing the head gasket on a 97 explorer 5.0. We pulled the driver side head last night and there is anti-freeze inside the heads and pistons. I know this is a bad thing but how bad and what can i do to get it out. Will replacing the gaskets fix this problem once i get the antifreeze out?? PLEASE help

lint free rag? turkey baster to suck it out?

common sense to change the oil as well then...

as far as fixing i have no idea what the shape of your cylinder head is; you gonna get it checked if it's not warped? and check if your block isn't warped as well?

taking precautions about torque sequences and what- not... i guess it'll be ok if you do it properly

turkey baster great idea!! yeah we are getting the head resurfaced for sure. It wasnt run long so im hoping the block is not warped. and I will change the oil for sure maybe even run some oil all the way through then putting new in. Thanks for the help. ive got all the torque specs so i should be ok there

yea, i get a few useful things from the dolla store...

i got 3 of these,

one for sucking out old brake fluid out of the master cylinder,

another for power steering fluid or using it to measure out 2-cycle oil for my weedcacker to mix w/ the gasoline,

and a third one for wacky things like yours:grinyes: good luck w/ the replacement!

If the machine shop is resurfacing the head and pressuring it for you use a flashlight and lay it flat on the block after it is cleaned. Prime area to look is between the cylinders for cracks. If you find one I would purchase a rebuilt short block. Using a flashlight like this will highlight it if you have one.
Any way its best to find one before putting it together and finding it still leaks.
Hopefully you drained the anti freeze before pulling the head.
