93' ranger cold start issues

93 ranger XL, 3.0 with a 5 speed...

got the truck about 2 years ago, and this problem has been nothing if not persistant. It was in an accident once, and that's how i got it. all it needed was a new blinker and a driverside axle housing, and .. well, back to the problem at hand..

when ya start it, it goes up to high idle like it's supposed to, and stays there for 15-30 seconds, depending on its mood... and it will idle.

if you try to drive it RIGHT after you start it, it'll go without a problem, BUT, if it has run for 2-5 minutes, it dies REALLY easy, every time you rev it to get into gear, it wont rev, without first dropping to about 400-500 RPM, and THEN it revs up... SO, i need a solution to this problem, as i hate waiting 5 minutes to go somehwere.

ALSO, it has a miss, all the time, through all RPM, but there is no CEL on, all cylinders fire (clean plugs, also fired when pulled) and all cylinders have good compression.

have replaced cap, rotor, wires, and plugs, MAF, and cleaned but not replaced IACvalve.--and still it misses...

SO, if you have a possible solution ot either of those (hopefully both), it would be AWESOME, and i will love u long time.

I would ohm the ECT sensor. http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=28
Also pull the vacuum hose for the fuel pressure regulator if it has gas in it replace the regulator.
I think Auto Zone or Advanced will loan a pressure tester I would check fuel pressure if the other items are satisfactory.
You can try cleaning the IAC.

ect sensor is fine.
feul pressure regulator is fine..
and cleaned the IAC.

still have the problem.

starting to wonder if i need to do another compression test... it MAY be that i'm missing a head gasket problem some how. that's the only explanation i can come up with, EVERYthing else is fine so far.

Re: 93' ranger cold start issues

I would check each and every electrical ground. Make sure they're tight and clean.

Sometimes cleaning the IAC valve isn't enough, sometimes they need replaced.

Make sure that the relays in power distribution box for the ECM and fuel pump are good.

Has the coil ever been replaced? They are not always the easiest to test accurately. Sometimes a bad one may test good.

Also, check the fuel injectors. One or more may be dirty or not firing due to a dead injector or bad signal from the ECM.
