96 impala chime issue

back in 1998 my chime stopped working...I actually enjoyed its failure..
since my courtesy lights fuse blew this weekend I decided to make all repairs....the 15 amp fuse was blown very badly which to me indicated a short to ground... upon investigating ,,I found the short in the drivers door where the arm rest sheet metal edge is ,,and the orange wire going to the lock/unlock switch connector wires pass.

then I located the conveinence center located under the dash between the brake pedal switch and the park brake....unscrewed from wall and removed the lime green chime box....inside the box is a circuit board with a lot of electronic componets....when removed from the plastic case I found the coil wire broken at the solder point of the board connection...

I increased the length slightly and soldered... then my resistance decreased to about 5 ohms not 500 ohms when first checked...

upon testing every thing worked like new////why did I fix that noise maker ????
