94 metro auto trans shift problems

Here is the sordid history. I bought a farm find junker. Pulled the engine and trans together. Rebuilt the engine 1.0 3cyl auto trans. Drained and changed trans fluid/filter, no leaks, fluid mark says it's full. New radiator. When the selector is in drive, it intermittantly, won't start off in 1st gear It will start off in second then shift to third and drive ok. I can manually shift 1st ,2nd,3rd just fine. On other days (still in D) it will start off in 1st, shift to 2nd then 3rd with no problem. No fault codes being thrown. I've heard there is a transaxel control module that may be causing this, but can find no mention of it in the Haynes manual nor can I find such a part listed online at Advanced auto nor Autozone. Scratching my head over this. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 94 metro auto trans shift problems

Hi. Mine did the same thing. There is a chassis brain box located under the dash about where your right knee is. It's not much bigger than a pack of cigarettes. It needs to be replaced. I got mine form a junk yard. Good luck!
