Considering buying a 91 Legacy LS 4wd wagon

Are these good cars? I'm looking at a 91 Legacy LS wagon with the 5 speed and full-time 4 wheel drive. The wagon has AC, cruise, power windows and locks and a power sliding sunroof. It's been sitting since October and it needs a rear hatch and some rust repair on the right rear fender. I could get it for about 250 bucks. Would it be worth it?

Check it out. Drive it. Look for bad vibrations, noise etc. For $250, do not expect top of the line. My guess, it has alot of miles, its obviously old and will need more than your obvious repairs. Expect to need new front axles, CV joints. About $300 for a mechanic. If you're reasonable mechanically inclined, buy a manual and do it yourself. Change the oil immediately, change all fluids immediately. I have had old Subaru's, my first one was salvaged. Owned it for 2 years then sold it. Subaru's, especially the older ones are reliable but boring. Only problem that was a constant annoyance was that the clutch and gas pedal cables broke often. I carried spares. Being a 1991, drive it carefully. Religious oil changes. If it was available in California, Id buy it for a commuter car.
