1999 Cavalier Fuel Pump Electrical issue?$ilv3rado 04-29-2009, 12:22 AM I'm writing this for someone else but I'll try to include as many details as I can about this issue. Okay, so the fuel pump went out on the Cavalier and he replaced just the pump itself (not the entire assembly) and put a new fuel filter on it as well. This has maybe been a couple months ago. Anyway, after replacing it the car seemed to run fine but there's been about three different instances since then where he'll drive the car to work (which is about 50 miles from where he lives) and come out of work to find out that it will not start. It will just keep turning over and turning over. He said he can tell when it is not going to start because he won't be able to hear the new fuel pump make a "humming sound" like it does when it does start normally. The power supply wires plugging into the top of the pump on the tank seem to be secure since I was told the plug itself is held in place with some sort of pin to insure a good connection but that's the only thing he can think of that might be the problem. It's a very sporadic problem. Has anyone heard of anything like this before? You suggestions and input would be appreciated. Thanks. Let me know if you need more detail and I will try to get it up here asap. Classicrocjunkie 04-29-2009, 12:53 AM Check the wiring harness for the fuel pump. The wires like to corrode out and break. Or also check the connection where it meets the body harness.. Also, please post any other issues in the J-body problem section above. It gets annoying after a while having to always move threads. Any other ideas? Okay. Sorry, but obviously I overlooked that entire section. Thanks for letting me know. J-Ri 04-30-2009, 07:40 PM Could be a bad relay, wires to the relay, bad ground, loose connection inside the pump. I could be wrong, but I thought that '96 up (and maybe older too, just the oldest one I remember) had a module that doesn't have a pump that you can replace. I know there are cheap pumps on e-bay that will fit in, but a cheap pump could be the problem. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
