Fuel filler neck flap

Please correct me if I am wrong - I though (saw) the flap inside the fuel filler opening on my wife's 05 Camry.
Put in tome fuel treatment into the tank yesterday, but the flap (the metal little thing) is gone.
Am i missing something (other then brain cells) and how important that part is.
I thought it's more of less a theft preventative measure, but I suspect you guys know better.

Thanks!

Re: Fuel filler neck flap

I have seen a similar post at toyotanation. I am missing one on my Accord as well, and I know for sure it used to be there. I must have broken it when added fuel with a portable canister.
I hope the flap is heavy and will sink to the very bottom of the tank. Otherwise it may block the suction tube of a fuel pump which is not good at all.

What can you do? Drop the tank? I am not going to do it unless it is absolutely necessary.

Sam

Re: Fuel filler neck flap

There is no need to find that thing. It is just going to sit at the bottom of the tank forever. It's only purpose is to prevent screws, bolts, nuts and assorted crap from falling down the filler neck by accident.
