Hello, I have a 1994 Buick regal Custom and it sometimes takes a long time to start if I use the key, but almost always start when I use my remote starter. It doesn't make the grunting noise that a car makes when it won't start, but a bee-noo noise sort of like a humming sound. and then you will here some clicks and hissing. If I use my remote starter it starts up. I was told it could be the key because it has this pertruding little microchip piece. That can't be right. I read that if the chip goes bad it will not start at all, or was that inaccurrate? I don't want to pay hundreds for a locksmith and key only for that not to be the problem. My second problem is that my car sometimes shuts off on me. It does it when it's a little warm outside or if I've been driving for awhile when it is hot out or if I've just been driving awhile. And it cuts off when I am either slowing down or going under 30 mph. At the beginning of the month I got a tune up and last week I just got a new starter put in. My old radiator had a crack in it, so I got that replace too. My check engine light also occassionally comes on. I was told if I replace the radiator it would not over heat and shut off. Now I'm not sure if that was the problem at all. Can someone PLEASE give me some advice. I need my car and I need my money as well. I need a solution that will not take me to the bank. I also wanted to know if you can damage your starter by using the remote starter all the time or can it do any damage to your car? Thank your dear hearts for your time.

Your remote starter unit may be the starting problem. On cars that have the microchip key, they have to either put a bypass module on the remote start unit, or some require an extra key that is inserted in the remote start unit to fool the security module into thinking there is a correct key inserted.

On the stalling while driving issue, you could have a bad ignition module, crank position sensor or computer causing that. Any of the three could cause that condition.

Thank you for that info, Richtazz. I'm still left with my hands in the air. I have to find a place to get a diagnostics done. I can't decide which thing to address first. I think the engine cutting off is the most crucial. As long as I can start my car with the remote started I can still use it, but the engine cutting off puts my life in danger especially when you are on a parkway type situation. Thanks again.
