replacing drivers side mirror

The heated power mirror on my 99 Silverado has a crack up the middle of it and I have a feeling the only thing holding it together is the heating element so it's time to replace it.Can I take the heating element from mine and transfer it to a non heated mirror lens? The dealers want way too much for a new lens and Ebay has a few complete units but all I really need is the lens as the rest of the housing is still perfectly fine and I thought that mabey I could pop a lens from a regular housing and just transfer the heating element from mine to it.Anybody done this?

Re: replacing drivers side mirror

superglue?
acrylic resin, like one they use for windshield cracks?
also, you can clean it thoroughly, and put transparent sticky film over the glass. should last you probably longer than you'll own the truck. just careful washing it.

Re: replacing drivers side mirror

You can get a replacement mirror lense form NAPA for about $12.00 and permatex it right over the existing mirror. You will still get the heat from the existing set up if it still works.

Re: replacing drivers side mirror

I got my mirror on ebay for 99 dollars shipped. all you need is the mirror insert with the heating element (and dimmer). Some sellers do offer the mirror alone without the whole housing. look it up.

look it up.
