2004 flex fuel filter

I tried to replace the fuel filter on my 2004 5.3 Tohoe. I bought the little blue plastic tool. I still couldnt get the filter to release. I removed it from the bracket and tried for about 1 hour to get it to release. I took it to chevv. $65.00. I talked to the teck . He showed me the same tool he used. He said i was doing it wrong and walked away. Any tips on how to get the filter to release? Als how often should I replace it. I didnt see anything in manuel on replacing fuel filter. Cant type or spell.Thank you.

A good spell checker will help on spelling.
A good repair manual or a all data online sub should show the way to use the tool and the tool.

Or post a picture of the filter connection and tool and some one will help.
Good Luck

Re: 2004 flex fuel filter

Joe, I came across your thread in a search for an answer to the same question. It doesn't appear as if you got any solution so I'll share my experience with you. What I did was to release the fuel line at the other end of the fuel line where I had enough room to insert the tool, took the fuel filter down with the line (about a foot long). Then I pried the fuel filter from the line, damaging the stainless clip in the end of the fuel line. I fished the stainless clip out and used the plastic retention clip that came on the end of the fuel filter in its place. Seems to work fine. The next time I think it will be easy to release the plastic retention clip.
