Unhappy Don't have #18 fuel pump speed control

I have a 1999 buick regal LSE V6 3800 Series II. Recently my car has died on me. I have to keep my foot on the accelerator to keep the car going and when I remove my foot the car dies. I have a new fuel filter. I assume my fuel pump works because I had someone check gas pressure and its at 42psi. I read some of your solutions and decided to look at my relays and I don't have the #18 relay I only have #19 fuel pump relay. Is this normal? Because I have a feeling its not. I have a friend that has a 2001 buick regal and he doesn't have #18 either. If I need the part where can I get it? I haven't check the resistor or even know if I have one. Please help.

Re: Don't have #18 fuel pump speed control

It is normal so don't waste your time thinking you have a problem with the missing relay. The LS/LSE does not have the L67 supercharged engine so there is no fuel pump speed control relay only #19 the fuel pump relay. And you do not have a fuel pump resistor.

And welcome to AF.

Thank you for responding so quickly. Do you think I need to replace my fuel pump relay then?Or could the problem be something else?

Re: Don't have #18 fuel pump speed control

If your fuel pressure is in specs (47-41 psi) and stays acceptable while the car is running your fuel pump relay is probably good. Try cleaning the throttle body mainly the idle air controller (IAC). When it gets carboned up to include the seat it will cause idling problems.

Does it stall at higher speeds or rpms or only at startup or idling?

Re: Don't have #18 fuel pump speed control

When I start the car up it cuts out within seconds, sometimes it doesn't start at all. If I keep my foot on the gas it'll run until I let up. The more I rev up the engine the more it seems like it wont cut out but it does when I let up off the gas. But a couple of times I started the car it ran okay but I was scared to put it in gear and drive off.

Re: Don't have #18 fuel pump speed control

Just to rule it out disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector then see what it does.

See link for component location.

I disconnected the MAF sensor and the car started the 5 secs later the car started to shake violently and acted like it was going to cut out the 3 secs later it stopped running.
