Transmission Interchangeability!!!!!!!

I was wondering? Since the 700R4 turned in to the 4L60 which turned into the 4L60E which turned into the 4L65E, are any of these transmissions interchangeable with each other?? Thanks much.

Yes and no.
Also they now have a 4L70E

The E is for electronic control.
They will still bolt up to a chev 4.3 V6 or V8 engine but.
About the only thing that is the same is bolt pattern transmission to engine.
Inside parts and inside case and converters and valve bodys have changed every few year.
And one for a V6 will have fewer clutches and different converter than a V8.

Re: Transmission Interchangeability!!!!!!!

The book says some will wil not fit and sometimes wrong. You can bolt the 4T65E toto any engine by switching out the final drive and sometimes electrical.Watch out on some on the 4t65E,the neutral safety switch is inside the transmission instead of the outside sometimes which can be switched out sometimes.

Ok, So I have a 1993 Chevy S-10 Blazer in which the trans needs replaced. Since it has a 4L60E trans in it, what vehicles in what model years am I looking at as a direct replacement trans for my Blazer?

I would say '93, '94 are your years. Starting in 1995, the transmission got revised with a PWM control for the TCC, which yours will not have.

You can use a trans for a V8 on yours as long as tailshaft length is the same (and again, uses the same electronics as yours).

And to wafredrick, the 4T65E is a totally different trans, meant for a front wheel drive (transverse mounted) car.

Is yours a 4W drive?
Big differance from a 2W to 4W.
Also wiring and solenoids inside of transmission will need to match.

Always check a salvage yard interchange book for what will fit and what all needs to be changed to get it to work.
Good Luck

I have a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 4x4 4DR with a 4.3 L V6 and a 4L60E Transmission. I need a replacement transmission. What vehicles and what model years would be a direct replacement for my transmission?

No one you have tio stay with a 4W transmission.

1993 and maybe 1994 Chevrolet S-10 /Blazer /Jimmy /Bravada/4x4 4WDR with a 4.3 L V6 and a 4L60E Transmission.

But even then you need to confirm the valve body/computer wiring.

Your salvage yard can check there interchange book to be for sure.
Good Luck
