Cool Tranny Conversion

I have a 1988 Chevy C2500 Pickup w/ a 350 engine.

It currently has an automatic transmission. I would like to convert it into a manual transmission to increase my fuel ecconomy and...well, they're just so much more fun to drive.

I need some suggestions. What type of transmission do I need? What kind of price range am I looking at? Is it worth it to convert instead of looking for a truck with similar components that already has a manual transmission installed?

Thanks guys,
~D~

You might go to a lot of expense and changing without much help on gas mileage.

What gear ratio and transmission and sise tires do you have now?

What mileage are you now getting?
Highway and in town?
Are you hauling any loads or pulling anything?
