Greetings, all.

I've been searching high and low for a distributor o ring that fits a 1999 Chevy Metro 1.0l 3 cylinder 5 speed manual hatchback. Mine is leaking badly and is cracked and brittle. It is shaped like a letter "c" at this point.

I've heard of folks using high temp gray gasket maker to patch an o ring with but fear that such a fix probably won't work as my o ring is so badly worn/broken.

Any links to parts houses that actually have the distributor o ring I need or information on the inside and outside diameter of the original part?

My inside and outside diameters are worn flat and the o ring is broken.

O-rings are generic parts like washers or wood screws. A good auto parts or hardware store (not a huge chain with blister packs hanging on hooks) will have a drawer or plastic box with a million compartments with various different o-rings for a nickle a piece.

I tried Ace hardware but was cautious about using their o rings since I don't know if the ones they carry are high temperature or oil proof since they are meant to be used in water faucets and the like.

Also tried Autozone with no luck but will continue the search at other suppliers.

Does using high temp RTV silicone to stop oil leak work on broken distributor o ring? I have a tube of the high temperature gray.

I tried Ace hardware but the sales clerk was unsure as to whether or not their o rings were high temperature and oil proof.

I'm a bit limited by not having an unbroken/unworn o ring to use as a guide.

I replaced the distributor o ring in my Metro with a part that came from a blister "help" pack from Autozone but the o ring had improper inside and outside diameters so the oil leak is still present.

If you buy a complete head gasket kit, the O-ring will be in there for sure. Did you check with a Suzuki or GM dealer?

GM dealership here claims that the o ring is unavailable and there is no Suzuki dealership here.

some guy on e-bay is selling them for $5 with free shipping. napa here has a large assortment of o-rings if you have one near you

Trial and error my friend. Estimate the size and get a small variety until you get one that feels right. They're pretty cheap. You'll now when you have the right one when you push the distributor in. It's a static seal so it does'nt have to fit perfect, it can be a little tight. Good luck.

I had a leak from the dizzy, tried o-ring from autozone, coudln't find one to fit well enough. Ended up going to Chevy dealership and they had one. Actually they had to get it from another Chevy dealership in town. Was about $11 for just the oring, but it fixed the leak. Check with your local Chevy dealer. Good Luck.

I had to order the o-ring from the Chevy dealership for $14 and some change. GM part number is 96067090 and is made in Japan.

The distributor leak has slowed down but is still there.

Does the new o-ring take a while to seat itself properly or some such?

The distributor went back into place easily with a bit of vaseline for lube...perhaps too easily???

I used an o-ring out of an assorted box. There's not really enough heat to damage one even if it's not made for heat and any, even the cheap ones would hold back the oil for years when used in that position. $14 for that little o-ring at the dealership? Good thing Lowes carries a 15 cent equivalent.

P.S. You can use some rtv form a gasket around the flat surface where the distributor goes in to help.

The oil leak stopped. It seems that the o-ring needed time to swell into proper size to seal the distributor shaft opening.
