motor swap

I know that I'm crazy. So with that out of the way, what would it take to put a Ford 390 FE into a '79 Chevy 4x4?

Lot of work and time and money.
You would need to install the engine and transmission and transfer case as as a matched pair to start with,

Re: motor swap

It's not such a good idea to put together components that you just have lying around. This swap would be lots of time and trouble, and the final result would be no better than the small block Chevy that your truck probably came with originally.

Sell the FE and buy a SBC if you don't have one already.
