Park Avenue won't start

Hello.

Yesterday I parked my car went home and when i went back to my car it would not start.

I have a 1995 Park Avenue 3.8 V6 w/ Automatic Transmission.

The car is literally dead. The "SECURITY" sign flashes and nothing happens when i turn the key. I had a spare that I tried but got the same results. What could be the likely solution or problem?

Much thanks in advance,
tartukaru

Typical Passkey problem- Try cleaning the resistor pellet in your ignition key- then wait 4 minutes between failures- until security light quits flashing and try again-

if this does not work- then do some research- if you are mechanically inclined, you can bypass the security resistor with one of 14 known resistances- the two white wires inside the orange sheath under steering column can be joined by the correct value resistor (same as your key). I've done several this way.

Isn't it unlikely that both of the keys pellets are dirty? What should i clean it with a simple cloth or use some alcohol i.e. vodka.

I probably won't go poking around in the wiring and just wait til' the holidays pass and get a technician here to look at the problem.

Sorry for doublepost. I read that when VATS is activated and when you turn the key you have to wait like 3 minutes or it will add another 3 minutes etc. up to 45 minutes... is this true?

No, this is not true. The 3-minute timer starts each time the key is turned from the run position, to the OFF position. If you do not wait the full 3-4 minutes, it will start a new 3-4 min cycle. It does not accumulate time!

Re: Park Avenue won't start

Sorry for reviving this old topic.

Just wanted to say what the solution turned out to be.

I took off the wheel, and everything under it (there's a lot of plastic there so be careful if anyone else tries to do this). When I got to the lock cylinder I found out that one of the white wires(VATS) was broken so fixed that, put everything back together and worked like a charm.

Be warned that if you are doing it for the first time like I was it will take you a lot of time and you have to be careful not to break any of the plastic. It took me somewhere around 7-8 hours total. (Including the pauses when me and my friend ran out of ideas).

yah the little white wire i don't know why they put such wire like that for your vats i guess so you have to take it to a dealer or well known shop.
