Leaky oil pan

During the rebuild I torqued all the oil pan nuts and bolts to 100 in/lbs as per the manual. One of them was stripped but I was hopping it would not matter.

It did matter. The oil pan is leaking right at the stipped bolt.

What is the best way to repair this, preferrably without removing the oil pan? Helicoil? Tap? Replace the block? Park it in the grass? I thought maybe I could fashion a single bar-washer and put it under the bolts on either side of the bad one but I don't really want to put extra pressure on those two and risk another strip.

Thanks

Re: Leaky oil pan

i would drill and tap it to the next size up bolt. should be able to do it without pulling the pan. did you use a gasket or silicone? if you used silicone you might have to pull pan and reseal it after you redo the hole, would just have to try it and see if it leaked after you fixed the hole

Re: Leaky oil pan

I never use a pan gasket on these especially if it has a crank sensor. RTV will hold it leak free even with a missing bolt or 2.
