Bad Emmisions Smell Please Help

I JUST BOUGHT A NEW 2002 RODEO IN JAN 2003 WITH 24 MILES IT NOW HAS 4,000 AND ABOUT A MONTH AGO I NOTICED A REALLY BAD SMELL LIKE ROTTEN EGGS I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FROM WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THE FIRST VISIT THEY SAID THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE SMELL. THE SECOND VISIT WAS ONE MONTH LATER, AGAIN I COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SMELL AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS THAT IT MIGHT BE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, AGAIN THEY SAID ALL THE TESTS SAID EVERYTHING WAS OK AND THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE SMELL. NEEDLESS TO SAY I TOOK THE CAR FOR A SPIN AROUND THE DEALERSHIP AND THE SMELL WAS STILL THERE THIS TIME WITNESSED BY THE SALESMANAGER. ANYWAYS, THE REPAIR MANAGER SAYS THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO AND THAT THE SMELL MAY JUST BE NORMAL----------AN UNNACCEPTABLE ANSWER IN MY BOOK-----------

ANY SUGGESTIONS?????????

Rotten egg exhaust....

Hey RJF76, I know what you mean in regards to the stinky exhaust. I too get it from time to time w/ my 2002 rodeo LS 4x4. Seems to be getting better as the truck breaks in more. I currently have about 10000 miles on it. This smell is NOT indication of bad catalytic converters. Our trucks have 2 high flow / high efficiency cats on them, one per cylinder bank. If they were to clog or foul, the check engine light will come on & the truck would run terribly. The smell is the cats doing there job, processing the sulphur out of the fuel we buy. The higher the sulphur content in the fuel, the worse the stink. If you drive your truck hard you will get the smell. Try different brands of fuel to see which one(s) help out. These trucks are heavy breathers & pretty fuel thirsty - All I can figure is this is just inherent of the engine & emissions control system. Just a result of pumping 205hp out of only 3.2liters of engine displacement. G/luck
