What transfer case?
What are the shift buttion lights doing.
Is front drive shaft and axel locking in.

Check for transfer case codes and post back any codes

This link may help.

And run a search on 4W drive shifting problems.
Lot of info from a good search.

Does it have a OBD11 diagnostic plug with wire on pin 13.
If so ground it and turn on key and read codes from shift button lights.

To check for axel lock in raise one fron wheel wheel and try to spin it in 4W.
If it spins and is not locked in to other wheel and it is not locking in.
Did you go to and read read this link?

Re: 4x4 not engaging

I had a problem with my front diff not locking in. I could hear the "clank" in the transfer case also. It ended up being a vacuum line that had been cut/chewed through. Cheap fix. Just a thought.
