I need help

Hi my name is Matt(or Psymon). I have always loved El Caminos since I was a little boy, and now I finally have one. It is a 1978, Gold/Tan, V8 305 2bbl. When I got it it had some problems but I fixed most of them. Recently I replaced the Distributor Cap, Rotor, Plugs, Plug Wires, Carborator, and Fuel Pump. Anywyas now to why I made this post. While it is idleing not in gear it is normal when I put it in gear it does the normal bog down but then it ildes fast then slow bounceing back and forth from the two. When I let off the brake it jerks once I give it more gas it is very rough and I feel it in the peddle, kinda like it is running out of gas even though I got a full tank. Once it gets going as long as I don't give it gas it is perfect, but once you give it more it does it more. Noe here is the the part that is makeing me mad. While it is going and I got my foot on the peddle it "skips a beat" by jerking forward and makeing a little pop noise then goes back to normal. If I floor it is acts like it stalled without the stalling part. That is as best as I can explain it if you got any ideas or need more info I will work on getting pictures for you to look at. Any and all respones are welcome/wanted.

Re: I need help

It is a manual, but I replaced it. Is there a way I can test it to see if I got a bad one?

Re: I need help

I would double & triple check the firing order, it sounds like you may have put wires on wrong plugs. Could also be wiring laying on an exhaust manifold & burned through. ~ Jon

Re: I need help

I did check that and they are on right with the correct fireing order, and it didn't start to happen untill a month or so after I changed the plugs, wires and cap.

Re: I need help

If you haven't done it yet, change your fuel filter. If it isn't electrical, it sounds like a lean condition. You could be getting too much air or not enough fuel. It could be a vacuum leak or a clogged fuel source.
