Many OBD2 scanners will not work on new vehicles without a CAN-BUS communication adaptor.

Re: KIA Sportage OBD2 Problem

OBD II is an engine operating system, and primarilly monitors sensors relavent to fuel management and emissions control. It is not an all comprehensive diagnostic system. Soon-to-come OBD III will be considerably more comprehensive. To have an operational problem that has not set a code means that the problem is not within the monitored domain of the OBD system. It means "resort to manual checks". Begin with the basics of fuel quality, clean fuel filter, no water in fuel, and work through fundamental visual inspection of air inlet systems, throttle cables, and so-on.
