how do i raise a 91 camarotweekie 03-18-2009, 09:51 AM i recently bought a '91 camaro rs and everytime i go into and out of my driveway i scrape the hell out of the undercarrage so i just simply dont drive it now. i have asked a few mechanic friends how to raise it and have gotten several ideas from gas shocks to putting shims under the springs. anyone have a better idea that wont brake the bank? Genopsyde 03-19-2009, 01:11 AM you're scraping the air dam, which is just a piece of thick plastic that guides air up toward the radiator. you're really not hurting anything by scraping it. just go in and out of driveways slow and at an angle. much cheaper to do that than lifting the car, which would look horrible btw. tweekie 03-19-2009, 08:56 AM fist off i would like to say thanks for the reply to my post and secondly i agree it will look like crap but i simply need to raise the car about a inch due to the fact that no matter how i exit the driveway the car simply puts fresh scratches into the cement wich tells me it isnt the airdam like you sudgest. i wish it was. it doesnt scrape goin into the driveway however. i am simply trying to prevent any damage being done to the car that i didnt already do the first time i pulled into the driveway. wrightz28 03-19-2009, 09:55 AM Only way to raise the ride height is by the springs which as Geno eluded to, 3rd gen f-bodies naturally ride low and driveways are always a common problem with the air dam, but if the springs are old this will fruther lower the height and cause larger problems. 1986Z28 03-23-2009, 12:26 PM I moved this thread out of the Tech/How to board, into the suspension/drivetrain board Morley 03-24-2009, 03:22 AM If you bought the car used, the previous owner may have put in lowering springs. Take a measurement from the top of the door sill (with door closed) to the ground with the car sitting level. Post it here and I'll do a measurement of one of mine (one has lowering springs and one has stock springs) and let you know if you have stock or lowered. If they are lowering springs, just go to the auto parts store and get stock springs. if they are stock..make sure the rubber isolation rings are on the top and bottom of the springs..Other than that, spring spacers....gas shocks that you can control form the driver seat might be the answer.
