PCV Valve 96 Tercel Stuck

Seems to be really stuck in the engine.

Do I just pull hard without fear?

Re: PCV Valve 96 Tercel Stuck

Do you mean it is stuck in the valve cover? If so the rubber grommet is most likely just hard and brittle. Pull it out.

I would go ahead and have the tranny flushed, no sense leaving the old stuff in there.

Re: PCV Valve 96 Tercel Stuck

Why would you recommend a transmission flush for a bad Pcv valve in the engine.
You might use a screwdriver and pry lightly. Get a new rubber grommet at the parts store or dealer.

Because the poster had 2 questions about this car, he just didn't ask them in the same post.Figured I would just answer them both in one post.

So, flush, and not replace fluid?

I thought I had heard that flushed can mess up trannies?

Re: PCV Valve 96 Tercel Stuck

If you are afraid to do a power flush on it just pull the car up on ramps, drain the pan, refill it, drive it around the block and repeat about 6 times. I have done this numerous times, it just takes a bit longer than having an oil and lube place flush it for you.

Re: PCV Valve 96 Tercel Stuck

Drain & fill 2 times is sufficient for tranny fluid. Don't neglect the differential fluid as well...it has it's own separate reservoir.

As for the PCV, let the engine cool then use a screwdriver or small pry bar to ease it out. As mentioned, the grommet holding it is likely old and embrittled. If you do replace the grommet, take care to not let any pieces of the old grommet fall into the valvevtrain. Best and safest way is to remove the valve cover first and work it out while off the car. Good luck!
