Greetings all, i'm new to automotiveforums, and planning in the next two weeks to purchase a Rav4.

I plan to purchase a 2007 Rav4 with less than 35k miles, they're out there I've seen plenty.

I want a 6cylinder, prefer standard suspension (not sport).

I know a guy who buys cars at auctions, unloaded by massive dealerships. In a week he might see 6 Rav4's, some with mileage in the teens, others in the 30 to 50k range. They're certified by major Toyota dealers.

The prices he can offer seem lower than dealer prices by a thousand dollars or more. Then again if i bought this vehicle:

i could try it out and drive it first.

Any thoughts on either of these methods? Or would you suggest looking for a private sale where i could have my mechanic go through the vehicle?

I just bought a 2006 Rav4 Limited,last july, it had 32,000 kilometers on it, here in Canada, so I didn't bother checking it out except going over it myself. I also own a 1994 Toyota 4Runner thats my beast for snow storms lol.
But if it was my choice with a vechile having 35,000 Miles or more I would have it checked out by a mechanic. I bought my Rav4 from a local Toyota Dealer, I bought my wife one , it is a 2001 and there was only 66,000 Kilometers on it, dam things are still new lol.
But honestly, this is just My opinion, if I Cannot have the Vechile Checked Out I Wouldn't Buy It, even with Low Miles a vechile can be abused and those 65,000 miles could be the hardest miles that were put On The Vechile.
This is just my personal way of buying cars or suv's , I'm over 50 yrs old and have learned alot of lessons over the years and having a vechile checked out before buying it is At The Top Of My List.
Good Luck in your search for a Newer Rav, I love mine and in 2006 they made a body and engine change, my Rav4 is as big as my 4Runner but with alot more power and it's only a 4 cylinder. I've talked with friends about the 6 cylinder Rav4 and they recommend the 4 cylinder, stating that the V6 has way to much Power and unless your into being in a hurry all the time you really don't need all that extra power. I think it's close to 1oo More Horse Power in the V6 over The 4 Cylinder. Thats my Personal Preference, I Hope this is of some Help To You.

The best way is to go to a auto action to buy your Rav4. You will save around $3000. So if there is something wrong that needs to be fixed, you have $3000 to fix your Rav 4 before it costs you anything. Most used car lot owners will take you to auction for $300 fee.
