Instrument Cluster Inop Exc. Temp Gaugekrushmoto 02-18-2009, 01:21 AM Have a '00 Malibu LS. The instrument cluster when dead except the temp gauge. Checked the Instr Lmps fuse and the fuse itself is good but there's no juice from the battery. So I'm thinking about jumping a fused 12+ to which ever side of the fuse powers the cluster until I can find out why there's no power. Anyone have any clues why it lost power to the fuse? Thanks. manicmechanix 02-18-2009, 02:41 AM There's at least 2 fuses for the instrument panel. One is only hot with the key in accessory or on, the other is battery and hot at all times. did you check both of them? krushmoto 02-18-2009, 10:27 PM I checked all the fuses in all 3 areas (underhood, on drivers and pass sides). All are hot with the engine running except the instrum lps fuse. The line is dead off or on. That's why I'm thinking there's a short in the line somewhere. Also tried jumping 12+ to the instr lmps fuse and nothing either. So still nothing works except the temp gauge. Can't tell how much gas or how fast I'm going. manicmechanix 02-18-2009, 11:39 PM It sounds like then you have an open circuit between the fuse and the IP. How does the car run? I understand the IP runs through the BCM or PCM. krushmoto 02-21-2009, 02:54 PM It sounds like then you have an open circuit between the fuse and the IP. How does the car run? I understand the IP runs through the BCM or PCM. Car runs fine. Occassionally the windows won't work but shut it off and then restart and it's fine. Lights, headlights, radio, cigar lighter, everything is 100% except the instrument panel. Also, on the speedo the needle is stuck at about 10mph. All other gauges are at 0. So go figure. slls 02-22-2009, 09:43 AM Have a '00 Malibu LS. The instrument cluster when dead except the temp gauge. Sounds like ignition switch problem, cluster power feeds from there. krushmoto 02-23-2009, 09:15 PM Sounds like ignition switch problem, cluster power feeds from there. I'll check when I get back from my trip. I'll you know what I find. Thanks. krushmoto 08-23-2009, 02:15 PM Sorry for the loooong follow-up time. Dad has this car now but still no power to the instrument cluster and temp gauge works. I thought about the ignition switch but realized if there was a problem with the ignition switch nothing would run or at least I'd have electrical problems besides the instru. cluster. So does anyone have any other suggestions? BTW I did check the switch and everything that's supposed to get juice gets it. krushmoto 08-24-2009, 10:19 PM Just checked out both junction blocks on both sides and everything has juice. So I'm stuck in a rut. However last night the check engine light came on so everything is dead including the temp gauge which I thought was working. At least the check engine light works. Oh also found out the cruise control system no longer works as well but the light turns on so I know it's not the fuse. So anyone have ANY CLUE what the problem might be. I really wish I could afford a new car and traded in this CASH FOR CLUNKER CAR!!! Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
