Oil Light on at idle

My oil light seems to come on when the car is fully warmed up and idling (600 RPM). My idle is a little low and the oil light does flicker. However, the light goes away when i rev it past 1k RPM. I have been told that the engine is on its way out and that i should be looking to do a swap in the near future. I was thinking maybe a bad oil pressure switch, but the light only comes on when the engine is warm. Does anyone have an input on this as to what it may be? any help is greatly appreciated..thanks!

Is the oil pressure switch leaking? I would at least try a new switch, it's a cheap fix if that is all it is.

Can you see inside the block where the switch goes? Is there a lot of sludge in there? You might have an honest to goodness oil pressure issue. It is still possible your oil pump may be worn out or the screen may be clogged up. Might want to go get it checked out.

yea that's what i was afraid of...:frown: can i at least use thicker oil in the time being until it completely goes out on me?

If the clearances are excessive, thicker oil would work for awhile. If the oil pump is crapping out or clogged or something along those lines, thicker oil will hasten the death of the engine.

Have you checked the oil level?

Have you giving it an oil chance recently?.....if not I would use some engine flush to clean it all out then put new oil in.Also I did and oil change on mine and the idiot light came on but that was caused by the pump not being primed enough so I just reset the puter and all is fine.
