Cluster Cover.....

Anyone have ANY EARTLY idea how to take off the gauge cluster cover on a P10?

Not the plastic cover that protects the dials themself, but the plastic cover that covers the insides? I need to change the cluster light bulbs...

There are 5 little dinky screws that hold in the cluster cover arouund the steering wheel, which i have removed. Removing the cluster cover itself is another thing. the bottom half seems to be connected to the damn thing! The top half slides partially off easily, but i can't remove the bottom half, thus the whole thing is still stuck in there. Anyone help?

Just looked in my Haynes manual and it says there are SIX screws to remove. Here's the paragraph from the Haynes manual:

" Working under the steering column lower shroud, remove the six shroud securing screws, then unclip the trim plate from the ignition switch/steering column lock, and pull the lower shroud down to unclip it from the upper shroud."

Is that what you were asking about? let me know if I can look something else up for you

Nono, im not trying to remove the steering wheel cover that contains the key ignition.
I'm trying to remove the black plastic cover that holds the "Security" light to the left of the steering wheel. That cover needs to be removed to get into the cluster lights to change them on a P10 right?

Oh, I see ...
Well, it sounds as if you've done things right ... did you lower the steering column?? If you have tilt steering I guess you could lower it that way rather than the way the following procedure states. In any case, here is the Haynes procedure for removing the "Instrument Panel Surround"

"Remove the steering column shrouds as described previously.

Loosen the two steering column upper securing bolts, and lower the steering column slightly.

Unscrew the five instrument panel shroud securing screws. Two screws are located at the top of the panel, two on the left, and one on the right.

Carefully withdraw the shroud from the facia. If necessary, lower the steering column further to provide sufficient clearance."

My manual makes no mention of the "security light", so is it possible that could be what is holding it on??

the security is part of the black piece that is located around the steering column. The whole piece comes off and then u just take the bulb out. and it comes free

i suggest you do take out the steering column to get to the cluster cause when i was painting my interior, it was a bitch to take it out w/o taking out the steering column. might even break it cause you have to squeeze the cluster really hard to get it through. cant angle it or anything.

i ended up taking the steering column off, which helped enormously. the job still sucked though :

That depends upon which model year we are talking about. The 91/92 is more complicated since the speedo cable must be disconnected first. The 93+ has an electronic speedo making it easier to remove.

Quick question...
is my P10 high or low port motor?
Whats the difference ? Performance wise too?
I've suddenly become interested ;p
